On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the greatest Armenian opera singer, People’s Artist of the USSR, Gohar Gasparyan, the soloists of the Yerevan State Chamber Choir performed works by Giacomo Puccini, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Komitas, Barsegh Kanachyan, Armen Tigranyan, William Vayner and other composers.
The concert was held on January 31 at Chamber Music Hall after Komitas.
"Gohar Gasparyan was exceptional. She really deserves all the praise that has been said. I was fortunate to live when Gasparyan was alive and even to be her neighbour. I have good memories of her, "noted the choir's artistic director and conductor Harutyun Topikyan.
According to him, each of the soloists dedicates his/her performance with great responsibility to the singer with the great grace of God.
Topikyan recalled Araks Davtyan's anniversary also is this year. "We will also celebrate her birthday," he emphasized.
Among the soloists were sopranos Tamara Mosinyan, Makruhi Khachatryan, Hripsime Sukiasyan, Jenni Nazaryan, tenors Mergelos Amirkhanyan, Tigran Hakobyan, Gagik Harutyunyan, Artur Poghosyan, baritones Andranik Malkhasyan and pianist Tigran Mesropyan.
Singer Gohar Gasparyan has been called the "Armenian nightingale". She was a coloratura soprano, had wide diapason and wonderful technique. Her voice was distinguished by its flexibility, luxury of tones, and slightness in transactions. She was characterized by a profound expression of the ideological and artistic content of the works being performed and persuasive meaning. She had performed in many operas. Many students of Gohar Gasparyan have become soloists оf the worls best stages. In 1953 and 1956 the singer was awarded the title of People's Artist of Armenia and The USSR respectively, and in 1996 she was awarded The Armenian Order of st. Mesrop Mashtots.
